Axaxaxas Mlo

Axaxaxas Mlo was a Santa Cruz experimental jazz ensemble (1999) started by Gregory Reynolds (alto sax), Ivan Setziol (cello) and Andrew Maxwell (percussions). They were later joined by Kimo Dressendorfer (tenor sax). They disbanded in 1999 when several members relocated to the Bay Area.

The trio/quartet had approximately 40 original songs, along with a scattering of "traditionals" by Ornette Coleman, Albert Ayler, Julius Hemphill and others. Their sound was evocative of the AACM-sound in creative jazz, and also integrated elements from Ethiopian, Macedonian and Burmese folk musics.

The name of the group was derived from the short story "Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius" by Jorge Luis Borges.
