Tao Chemical's Rob Brezsny created this mysterious flyer in early 1980 and posted it all over town. Note the cryptic message "Oat Chem Cal" (partially missing) in the lower right corner. "The Eater of Cruelty" was a reference to Antonin Artaud's concept of "Theatre of Cruelty"; Brezsny later used the stage name Pope Artaud. A few people actually did send him their hair, which he used in a conceptual art piece.
