Mary Jean Shaffer was the founder, lead singer, and keyboardist of the The Holy Sisters of the Gaga Dada. She was crazed and brilliant, a performance artist without even trying, always dressed to kill. In one typical scenario, at about the same time as she started the Holy Sisters, she arrived at a busy diner in San Francisco's Potrero Hill district at 1:00 a.m. with a grocery sack over her head, proclaiming that she'd been disfigured in an accident.
