Mule Train was formed October 2003 by Paul and Cooper McBean. The name, which references a Glickman/Heath/Lange song popularized by Tennessee Ernie Ford, was used as a joke at their first gig at the Barn, and it stuck.
Influenced by early country, western swing, indie rock and punk, the band recruited bassist Cody Perez when original bassist Cooper McBean could no longer play due to his commitments to the Devil Makes Three. Cooper returned to the fold in summer 2005 on lead guitar. The band recorded their first CD, "Be On Your Way", in the spring of 2004, and released it in August 2004. They toured the Pacific Northwest in 2004, and Southern California in 2005.
