The SCUM moniker

The SCUM project was a website (October 1996 - January 2003) developed by Oliver Brown for the Santa Cruz underground music scene. It provided information about local bands, upcoming shows, and resources regarding making your own records and putting on your own shows. Musicians and band members could have information posted at the site (like confirmed shows, contact information, band history) by sending emails to Oliver. Oliver would then make edits to the website.

The SCUM project was established when Russ Granger moved away to San Francisco and stopped maintenance of his SCAM project.

In May 2005, data from the SCUM project was transfered to WikiSCUM.

Note: The SCUM project is different than Dianna Brint's 1960s organization called the Santa Cruz Urban Marijuana Smokers (SCUMS).
