Summer Mastous has an M.A. in Demographics and Social Analysis and a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Irvine.

Summer Mastous is fluent in the computer programs SAS, SPSS, GIS, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Stata, and EViews. She types 76-93 WPM and has research and teaching experience. She spent 5 years at the University of California Irvine working part time and attending school full time after working 7 years in the independent music industry in order to round out her education in life applications that could be utilized in the public or private sector. One band she was in was the Fisticuffs Bluff, the brainchild of Drew Gilbert, who now is in the process or has already attained a Ph.D. . Drew Gilbert wrote all of the guitar for the Fisticuffs Bluff compositions for which Summer Mastous wrote lyrics and sung. Many lyrics were religious in theme but were unknowingly so as they were penned before Summer Mastous' conversion to organized religion. Other band members whom were also intelligent and talented include Dave Louie, Jay Con-ui, Paul Costuros, and Yoshi Nakamoto. Summer Mastous was also in the band Ida Sessions with Donovan Skirvin and Tobyn McCormick. Also two intelligent and talented individuals, Donovan Skirvin now makes a successful shoe line in Portland under the title Ese Carnal. Summer Mastous also played with Miranda July, who is now a film director who recently won the Cannes Award for the movie "Me and You and Everyone We Know". Miranda July is still very active. Summer Mastous also played with the band Octant, brainchild of the talented team Matthew Steinke and Tassy Zimmerman, both prolific and meaningful individuals with great contributions to make. Summer Mastous also played with the band Love as Laughter in Seattle WA, before they went on tour for the record Destination 2000 on Sub Pop Records. Love as Laughter is the creation of Sam Jayne, an individual with both production and composition talents who has the unique gift of writing vibrant and rich collections of recordings under a common theme.

Summer Mastous was the lead singer for The Fisticuffs Bluff. In Olympia, Washington, she played keyboards for the band Love As Laughter. She was also in the band Octant. She is currently enrolled at the University of California, Irvine studying economics.

In 1997, Summer and Donovan Skirvin performed the music for a Miranda July CD. The following year she and Donovan released Ida Sessions.
