The Dock was a Santa Cruz venue (529 Seabright Ave.) that opened October 1980. It was owned by Michael Farley and Susan Farley. They started the place specifically to give new acts a place to play. It was billed as a place for "holistic entertainment" and hosted a variety of genres, from new wave to jazz, but usually no punk. The Farleys provided the space, and the bands were responsible for advertising and collecting money. Rather than judge acts on bar receipts, the Farleys were satisfied with breaking even. After serving one year under its lease, The Dock folded.

By the spring of 1981, with Shellie's Too out of the picture and the Santa Cruz Art Center closed for renovations, the Dock had become one of the main venues for local bands. The Batteries were on the rise at the time and appeared frequently. The club was forced, however, to stop doing new wave showcases because of noise complaints and lack of an appropriate permit.

The space had previously been a disco. There was a fireplace next to the dancefloor.
